How To Test An Amplifier
You should start by passing power through the amplifier. For you to make the purchase you should ensure that it has the right voltage. For example, if the amplifier is designed for use in a car, it should have 12 volts.
To test the amplifier you only need to touch the power wire to a power source. When the ability light comes on, it’s proof that the amplifier has a good circuit board.
After doing this you should test it to confirm if it puts out sound. To do this you need to hook the speaker wires or RCA cables that are coming out of the head unit to the speaker. You should then connect the speaker to the output side of the amplifier.
If the power light comes on, but you do not have any sound, it’s a sign that amplifier has been overloaded also will most likely not work. If good quality sound comes out, the amplifier is good.
To ensure continuity you should check all the fuses. Fuses are usually colour coded with come with a plastic body. You should consider checking the fuses when you connect your amplifier to a power source plus doesnot turn on.
You should inspect the inline fuse which normally comes with a black or clear plastic casing. The fuse tends to split down the middle or warp apart. You should check whether it’s cracked or corroded. If it is, you should consider replacing it. You should also consider replacing the combine if the wire inside it is in two pieces.
Using A Digital Multimeter
A digital multimeter helps you to measure the amount of current going through your amplifier. To measure the current you should connect the red multimeter probe to its positive port together with then turn on the digital multimeter then set the measurement dial.
You should then connect the red probe of the multimeter to the negative end of the device that you are studying. You should also connect the black probe of the multimeter to the wire that you had removed from the amplifier that you are testing. When you do this you will see the amount of current that is flowing into your amplifier.
